A little bit of tips for the curious..

So here is a few of my views/tips on African living:

Living without a shower that is hot and has pressure is not too bad I guess. Keep a stash of baby wipes. I'm usually dirty anyways, and once I get one nice shower it's like paradise under a tap. I feel clean of course, and it makes me so thankful and happy. Living with bugs all over the place, not  a big deal really.... unless they are disgusting cockroaches. Then you'd better get bugspray and nets over your bed. Snakes... just burn a tire, but never touch them because that'd be stupid. They're poisonous. Living not even 30 feet from an Orphanage/Highschool.. Okay not so bright idea . You get people over all the time, and you cannot trust easily. You have to hide things when you go away. And make sure if you do so to get some ear plugs, and locks on everything.EVERYTHING. If you feed stray cats, expect them to be around 24/7 ;) ... If the people next door know where your window to your bedroom is.. oh well, that's my life ... So usually you just need  to get used to it, or switch rooms and not tell anyone. You'll have people at your windows.. and never change in front of the window . Always bring sunscreen. If you're female wear a long skirt, and male wear pants. Don't dress like you're going out, you'll be asking for creeps.  If you're female and blonde.....well get ready for some strangeness i'll just say. Make sure you use malaria medication unless you've lived there long. Or malaria it is for you! Don't dress like a tourist.. it's weird.. and it's obvious you are one, which makes your more prone to thieves. Don't bring big fancy cameras unless on safari.. again, you're prone to attract thieves. Bring water with you. Never bring out a wad of money in hand... Not smart.
When buying things , always ask for the African price and tell them "I do not want a Mzungu price".

I have many more , don't be afraid to ask if you're curious or looking into doing humanitarian work as well.

  1. Ok the stray cats thing happens here too lol. What do you mean burn a tire..?? to get rid of snakes?? That would be a horrible smell!! I assume Mzungu price means tourist price... Its good to get a local person you trust to go buy things for you or go with you so you wont get ripped off, thats what i learned too...
