African Adventures, Day 4 :
I have to admit, it makes me quite mad that there's so many over weight people from EATING in the world, yet here there's people STARVING to death . The worst part is that many people do not seem to even care, or notice. And other times when they do notice, they don't think they can help. We have people wasting money, water, food, EVERYTHING.. and people are trying to sell what they can just to survive. They use bark to brush their teeth, and most people only own like one outfit, if any.A lot of things over here are very corrupt, yet everything is so beautiful. I see dead dogs on the side of the road everywhere, and other animals. There's garbage burning all over the side of the roads, and the smell in the air is a combination of burning garbage, diesel, and sweaty people. The people here have so little, yet are so loving. Some people back home have so much, yet.... are so.. well , rude! Not every person of course, but not many people do not realize what they have.
Some people believe that this world was created by some stupid big boom, but there is no way possible. Today , we went out to walk around in a safari area, I have seen some of the most beautiful things in the world. To think that any of the beauty I have seen is made by some stupid boom, is RIDICULOUS, there is way too many details. I drove past the booths on the side of the road where the villagers try and sell stuff to be able to feed themselves for the day and yet, they are all so excited to see white people come by! The children yell " Welcome! Monsoon goo" (Which means welcome whitie's). They get huge smiles and everyone wants to say hello! As I get farther into the jungle area past the smaller huts I start to see animals. We drove down to the water front and saw hundreds of flamingos just standing there in the water beside the water buffalo's. We stayed for awhile then drove away to go farther in to the mountains and go on a hike to see animals. As we started towards the path we saw a group of zebras and gazelle. We parked our car(which has been through a lot seeing as the roads are.... well in Canada, not roads!)We started up the path and down to a lake side where it looked like our "Chocolate river " from back home. (The colour anyways) We had to truck through the mud with our sneakers which was a fun adventure and had to move slowly. I look into the bushed area and saw a bunch of giraffe, and they just stand there staring at you! I got pretty close up to them ... and we became bff's. As we kept on walking we went trhough a thick area. The setting really reminded me of the images you would see in lion king. There was families of monkey's that sat up in the trees watching us, and you could hear all sorts of things making noises. ( I was hoping a monkey would like jump on me so I would have a cool story or something!.. But nope) We kept walking and started going up hill. Then down, and we went through lots of bushes and cool looking trees . As we went on we went through a field and saw some more zebras, giraffes, deer thingys.. dung beetles forming poop into balls, buffalo's,Boars, Dickdick's, and way more! (THEY WERE EVERYWHERE) We got very close up to the animals, and they did not seem very scared. We then went through more trees and up the mountain after going through some fields and seeing more animals and we went to the very peak of the mountain. The sights were breath taking. We could see every spot we went , and we could see the giraffe's long necks staring up at us. (They watched us everywhere we went) We found shiny rocks that were part of a volcano that blew off part of the mountain (there were pieces everywhere) and we were standing in the crated of the volcano. (More walking/climbing that went on for awhile) ... We then came down the mountain and found ourselves back where we had parked. We had walked a whole oval around it all. Later on we found a pizza place ( I KNOW RIGHT?!..) and had ourselves some pizza and pineapple Fanta (only sold here) after a long , HOT, day. The weather of the day had actually started off as rain, and turned to glazing sun. I am not sure how far we walked, but I am definitely staying fit here!
As we drove for awhile we stopped at a few shops, where the people are VERY persistent in trying to sell you things to get their wages for the day. Whenever they see a white person they think of them as rich so you have many people chasing after you trying to make you buy their merchandise. You have to say to them "No, not today." Because usually if you buy one thing, you end up buying more. We did however buy some giraffe sculptures, but after that we were followed to our car. We drove home (as in my cousin's house because I have not taken my next plane to my home in Taita hills yet) and decided to go look at the stands down their road. My parents and I went and walked down by the stands because we were looking for jeans.. (We only brought a couple pairs because you are supposed to wear long skirts where my home will be) Although, as we went along the children and adults saw us(White) and got excited.. trying to sell us things and be friendly . It is now supper time here, and we are ready for our end of the day meal! And then chill time because it is not very safe to go out after dark... Anyways, we will see what's in store for tomorrow!
