African Adventures, Day 6 :
Today was the day that I would finally take my last flight. I would be heading to my new home atlast! I had to wake up at 5:30 AM to get everything ready and packed in the van to go get the rest of the group from their hotel. We looked around to make sure we did not leave anything behind and then got in the van. We arrived at the group's hotel and packed EVERYONE'S things into another van which would drive our things down as we flew. We headed to the airport and then weighed everyone and waited. As we waited the crew at the airport for missionaries started a church.. IN THE AIRPORT.. It sort of surprised us all but we went along with it. Our flight had arrived and we all got onto our small plane and buckled up. As we got higher and higher in the air I could see the people and cars getting smaller like little ants. The sight was tremendous. I could see animals on the ground because we got lower to the ground and flew that way for awhile. I had seen the elephants and different types of deer and many antelope. The plane then got higher in the air and all I could see was the fluffy clouds that surrounded me. They reminded me of cotton candy or like a nice bed. (Made me wanna jump on them ) After some time I got a little tired of the fluffy clouds and fell asleep. As I woke up I then saw all of the land below, the crops, the muddy water, and more animals.. (Quite the beautiful sight to wake up to ) ;) . We were about to land soon and everyone was excited. We landed slowly and much more easily then many of my other flights. As we landed I was surrounded with mountains , fields, animals and the nice warm weather. We unloaded the plane and we headed into the resort we were at... the flowers were as colourful as a rainbow, and the grass green. The pool out back was tempting.. but I still wasn't home yet! We got a bus to come pick us up because we then had to drive down to Taita Hills Village. We patiently waited and the bus arrived, we got on our free safari drive (as you could say)..!! Along the way we saw much more elephants and other types of animals and the driver would even stop for us to see them all. We drove down the narrowed , bumpy, muddy roads and looked out upon the view of it all. As the road got narrowed now and then , we would have to close our windows because we did not want the thorn bushes to prick us , because they can infect you. The ride seemed to be about 20 minutes and we finally were ..HOME. The greeting was more than I could have imagined it to be. We were honored and the high school sung to us and brought these Christmas ornament things and puts them on some of the group's necks. We videoed it all because they made such a greeting. The principal and the teachers along with the students said a few words and introduced themselves. They were then sent back to class and we walked down the road past the gates to our house. We got inside and looked around. (Back home this house would be considered a very poor house, but here we have it very good) We decided where we would stay , ate some rice and potatoes, and waited for our luggage. We looked around the school and such and came back to the house to unpack. After an exciting day, we were ready to clean up and head to bed. We got in the...what you could call*showers* that are ice cold (We are so glad to even have any) got our teaching plans ready for the next day, and went to sleep.
